In The Community: The Honors Symposium is tomorrow -- Poetry is on the agenda!
The Hockaday Museum of Art is setting up our annual Childrens Show and High School Art Show. I helped install George Gogas' abstract paintings yesterday and Monday. They were large, but they were light. We don't show modern art as often as other genres, although Donna Gans' show was very well attended last fall -- get in there and see it!
Check out Fall for Glacier -- a fundraiser for several programs that make Glacier National Park even better!

Media Watch: Yay! S***mouthed Adam is OFF Dancing with the Stars. The results show was fairly entertaining, but there was still too much video-padding. The Kid's Kompetition was OK. Sheryl Crow isn't my favorite musical personality, but she works much harder than the average bear and I don't mind hearing her now and then. It is remarkable that this show featured another cancer survivor last week -- Dance-club diva Kylie Minogue from Down Under. Aussie Kym Johnson danced to Crow's first number too, along with Edyta, Tony, and Mark.

Personal note -- Alan (Gunga) Purves, as I learned to spell his name, was a friend of mine when I lived in Amsterdam. He joined Friends Roadshow during the first Festival of Fools, and became the drummer for my theater group in 1976. He spent a number of years on the throne for Sail-Joya. He recently made an album with Davy Norkett called All By My Shelf which kept me laughing as I played it in France a couple of summers back. From Davy's website: Here is an idea what instruments a (Squeekologist) like "Gunga" might use... Wee Kalimbas, School Bells, Brim Bram, Jaws Harp, Tubes, Moothies, Wee Accordions, Euler's Disk, Plastic Bags, Bodhran, Bird Whistles, Car Horn, Boom Wackers, Chinese Crickets, Rubber Drums, Tin Whistles, Spring Drum, Wee Accordion, Wee Marimba, Bowed Cymbal...and more.

The snow continues in the mountains, but it's tinder-dry in the valley. A house fire seventy yards or so from me made me realize how vulnerable we are in this dryness. (The Fire Department soaked the place down for an hour or more, but there were still ashes the size of leaves falling in my back yard!)

In The Community: The Honors Symposium with that panel of four artists was a nervous hour and a half, but was very well-received. Poetry is on the agenda THIS week!
The Auction of Miniatures for the Hockaday Museum of Art was a big success. The Hilton Garden Inn added a lovely sit-down dinner, and all our hard work resulted in everybody having a good time. Some friends of mine showed up and we had a few laughs. The next day was pretty busy, but went smoothly until our truck stalled after the last load was packed away -- we were 'way out west of town under a cold, windy, blustery sky. Thank goodness for roadside assistance!
Check out Fall for Glacier -- a fundraiser for several programs that make Glacier National Park even better!

Media Watch: Trash A Go Go was somewhat better, but the judges are using multiple standards, which isn't right. Tracy (Marissa) Turnblatt got 8's, but they over-rated Priscilla (Donna DeDead) Presley again. Praising her facial expressions was ridiculous, since she's half-paralyzed by Botox or something worse. Much as I like Jason and Edyta, the big guy stumbled and should have had a point taken away. Mario and Karina are being as overly-criticized as the last Mario and Karina were. Miraculous Marlee Matlin is a delight, and the Viennese Waltz fit her like the proverbial glove. Kristy Yamaguchi is by far the best, but the conventionally-pretty starlet with two first names is creeping up on her.

Look Mommy & Daddy! Dancing with the Stars!
Isn't that Julianne dressed to look like Cheryl?
You call that DRESSED?

The music wasn't BAD this week, and didn't get in the way. That problematic unseen baritone singer only did one solo number. S*** mouthed Adam rode in on a unicycle -- best move of the season for him. I hope he's GONE after tonight. Julianne Hough's brother Derek injured his neck in practice, much like she did last month. Hmmmm -- something is going on with that dancing family.
