Media Watch: Democracy Now had an hour's conversation with Pete Seegar. Sometimes TV is really worth a person's time. This great American humanitarian, scholar, and musician spoke about his family, Alan Lomax, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, The Weavers, the House Un-American Activities Committee, Bob Dylan, and Seegar's home on the Hudson River.
He didn't mention his important role in securing royalties for the family of Solomon Linda, the South African musician who gave the world M'Bube (The Lion Sleeps Tonight).

Jacques LeCoq alumnus Julie Taymor became famous for her bold artistic direction in the stage version of Disney's Lion King. The nation of South Africa stood up for Solomon Linda's heirs over royalies owed to them for use of the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Production photo from PBS.org
