In The Community: The Hockaday Museum of Art has two new shows -- Seldom Seen, from the Permanent Collection, and First Nations Artists -- Contemporary / Traditional. We still have Crown of the Continent, and Ace of Diamonds. I also got my first compliment about the Bull Head Lodge video -- THANKS Doc!
Media Watch: Montana NPR played music by the late guitarist Davy Graham for an hour or more last night. He was VERY influential in the 1960's -- Paul Simon dropped his name on the liner notes of his Sounds of Silence album, and used Graham's music on two songs -- the instrumental Angie, and Somewhere They Can't Find Me. Jimmy Page adapted his instrumental tour de force White Summer from one of Graham's compositions too. I wish those two industry insiders would have championed records by Davy Graham -- if they did, I never saw any for sale in those days. RIP Mr. Graham, you influenced many other fine guitarists, like Bert Jansch, and made our world brighter.
On The Road: I snooped various sites for coverage of the Heroes Red, White and Blue Inaugural Ball for news of George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars, and found a little something on MTV's website:
... the night was a huge success, with performances by Parliament Funkadelic mastermind George Clinton — who is renowned for his wild live shows — David Banner, Memphis Gold and others.
"We can be so proud," Captain Angelina Carrera said. "We served our country with love and honor." Carrera served in Iraq with her husband, Colonel Stephen K. Scott. He was killed by a mortar round in Baghdad last April.
Carrera's remarks came during an intermission between performers Memphis Gold, Peter Paul and George Clinton in the historic Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.
... The sacrifice wasn't lost on the quickly organized group of performers, including George Clinton and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, who stepped up to give America's heroes a show.
"This is an honor," (Mr. Robert (P-Nut) Johnson) of George Clinton's entourage said. "We don't say it enough. We don't say 'thank you' enough."

George Clinton brought on rarely seen Sly Stone with his group, and was a big hit with the troops, many of whom flocked forward to the stage.

There was a guy filming at the sound board that said he saw Sly at the original Woodstock concert and to see two of the biggest legends together on stage alive in funk music history blew his mind!
(Sly) came on while (my friend) Mike Hampton was finishing up a very impressive version of Maggot Brain.
This generation has no clue how rare this was to see Sly Stone and George Clinton at the World's Greatist Inauguration in History at the famous Warner Theatre that has hosted some of the most classic funk shows in D.C. -- Funkadelic, PRINCE, Betty Davis, Graham Central Station, and many others
